Role
The Network has added a resource group in ethics, scientific integrity and intellectual property. Its role is to:
- be constantly up to date on the latest aspects regarding ethics, scientific integrity and intellectual property,
- update current documentation available to members of the Network relative to ethics, intellectual integrity and intellectual property,
- organize workshops and training programs either stand-alone or in association with other organizations for the benefit of members and students of the Network,
- contribute to the transfer of knowledge to professionals involved in ethics in medical research in Quebec,
- establish a network of human resources for consultation purposes when needed,
- assist members of the Network in matters of ethics, scientific integrity and intellectual property.
Composition
The ethics, scientific integrity and intellectual property resource group is comprised of:
- the Administrative Director of the Network (chairperson) ,
- a research coordinator,
- a member of a strategic group.
Overview of activities and achievements
- Regular participation since 2000 by Dr. Awissi to the annual symposium on ethics organized by the National Council of Ethics in Human Research (NCEHR),
- Attendance to two working meetings with officials of the Commission d'accès à l'information (Access to Information Commission),
- Preparation of the background ethics document which was submitted for legal review for the establishment of the Network Tissue Bank,
- Contribution to the establishment and management of the Network Tissue Bank,
- Contribution to the establishment of the tissue bank in the Department of Pathology at McGill University, which has since been transferred to that of the Meakins-Christie Laboratories at McGill University,
- Work sessions with the Ethics Adviser of the FRQS for the production of the document that contributed to the establishment of the Network's DNA Bank,
- Organization of symposiums on ethics and scientific integrity for the transfer of knowledge for professionals interested in ethics in medical research,
- Production of the proceedings of the second symposium in CD and book format,
- Assistance to members regarding ethical issues.
